| The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India organized a Seminar on Emerging Competition Regime for Industry and Role of Accountancy Profession on 12th April, 2008 at Hotel Le-MERIDIEN, New Delhi. The Northern India Regional Council of the Institute hosted the seminar. CA. Ved Jain, President, ICAI inaugurated the Seminar and welcomed all guest, and participants attending the seminar. In his speech, the President emphasised the role of accountancy profession to ensure a fair competition culture and regime in the Country. Eminent Speakers from the Government, Industry and Service sector addressed the delegates. There were four Technical Sessions - three on Competition Law & Practices and one on Consumer Law.

| The First Technical Session presented an Overview of the Competition Law and Regulation of Combination. Shri Jitesh Khosla, Jt. Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs chaired the Session and Shri Amitabh Kumar, Director General, Competition Commission of India delivered the Keynote Address on the same.

| The Second Technical Session was on Professional Opportunities in Consumer Protection Act, 1986, Hon’ble Justice S.N. Kapoor, Member National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission chaired the session and Shri P.Venkatesan, Director, and Deptt.of Consumer Affairs delivered the Keynote Address. |

| The Third Technical Session was on Competition Law and Practices - the Role of Accountancy Profession. CA. Rajkumar S. Adukia, Central Council Member and Chairman, Committee on Economic and Commercial Laws chaired the session and Shri Anil Bhatnagar, Advocate, Supreme Court delivered the Keynote Address. In this Session, the eminent speakers emphasized on the role of accountancy profession as an integral part of the competitive regime. They also stressed on the fact that the Chartered Accountants because of their expertise in financial market would play a crucial role to protect the consumer interest in the emerging global consumer society. |

| In the concluding Session on Emerging Competition Regime for Service Sector and Industry, Shri Augustine Peter, Economic Advisor, Competition Commission of India chaired the Session and CA. Vinod Jain, Central Council Member, ICAI delivered the Keynote Address. In this Session, various emerging issues relating to the service sector and industry were deliberated. |

| 101 Delegates participated in the seminar. Apart from the delegates, 30 other dignitaries including the Chairmen of the technical sessions, speakers and senior government officials from the Ministries/ Government departments graced the occasion. |
