President & Vice President's meeting with Governor of Karnataka

President ICAI, CA. Ved Jain Meeting with His Excellency Shri. Rameshwar Thakur, Honourable Governor of Karnataka - March 13th, 2008 at Raj Bhavan
 
President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), CA. Ved Jain along with Vice President of ICAI, CA. Uttam Prakash Agarwal met His Excellency Shri. Rameshwar Thakur, Honourable Governor of Karnataka on 13th March 2008 at Raj Bhavan.
 
The President briefed the Governor about recent initiatives taken by the Institute in involving Members at large with the State Governments in ensuring better accounting and transparency of Public Finance.
 
The President also said that CAs can assist the state Administration and local bodies in reviewing and analyzing the public finances and suggest ways and means to improve the same.
 
The Governor was quite appreciative of the accounting profession and said that the State Government will be happy to have the expertise of CAs in matters related to public finance.
 
The President appraised His Excellency about the plan to set up a Centre of Excellence with state of the art infrastructure at Bangalore. The President added that having an excellent learning centre of international standard at Bangalore could be befitting the stature of IT Capital. A memorandum to this affect was submitted with a request to allot 25 acres of land for the proposed Centre of Excellence. Emphasizing the need for setting up the Centre, he was of the view that in this manner, the Institute would be in a better position to cater to the growing needs of members and students of Karnataka at large.
 
Further, the president mentioned that expert faculty and enriched resources available at the Centre of Excellence would help in grooming members and CA students to emerge as competent professionals ready to face complex business environment.
 
Briefing the Governor about development initiatives of the Institute, the President mentioned that Information Technology has been accorded priority in the curriculum by setting up of 80 Computer Centres at its various branches across the country and 40 more Computer Centres would be established in next couple of months. A plan is afoot to provide computer training to all its members keeping in line with the advancement in Information Technology.
 
CA.Uttam Prakash Agarwal, Vice President of the Institute added that the proposed Centre of Excellence would include facilities for conducting various development programmes for members. He also mentioned that, available facilities at the proposed Centre Of Excellence would be used for classroom teaching for the benefit of students at large.
 
CA. K Raghu, Central Council Member mentioned that Centre of Excellence at Bangalore would greatly benefit members and students of Institute and brings glory to the state of Karnataka.
