Under the aegis of Board of Studies of ICAI,Vijayawada Branch of SIRC of ICAI hosted a National Convention for CA Students on 22nd& 23rd of August, 2014. The theme of the convention was “ JAGRATI- awakening the excellence”. The convention witnessed a recordparticipation of3,152 students throughout the countryand was held at the prestigious A-Convention Hall at Vijayawada.

The formal inaugural session was graced by Chief Guests Sri KonakallaNarayana Rao,Member of Parliament, Machilipatnam and Panel Speaker, Lok Sabha and SriKesineni Srinivas,Member of Parliament,Vijayawada,CA.M.Devaraja Reddy,Chairman, Board of Studies, ICAI, CA. J.Venkateswarlu, Central Council Member,ICAI, CA S.Akkaiah Naidu, Chairman of Vijayawada Branch of SIRC of ICAI, CA AgnihotramSrinivas,, Vice-Chairman of Vijayawada Branch, CAK.Siva Rama Kumar, Secretary, Vijayawada Branch,SICASA Chairman, CA V.Rammohan Reddyand Mr.Uma Shankar Vice Chairman, SICASA were also present in inaugural session.

Out of more than 80 papers received from CA Students,11 best papers were selected to present their paper in the Technical Sessions on the topics ranging fromCompany Law, Direct Taxes, Service Tax, Audit& Economics.

The First Technical Session was on “Provisions applicable to Private Limited Companies”, which was headed by CS. DhanapalSripathy, Chennai. Mr.NirmalUmeshGyanchandani from Nagpurpresented the paper on the topic. Mr.Vinod Kumar Reddy from Kagithapuram, Tamilnadupresented the paper on “Accounts and Audit under the Companies Act”.

The second session was a special session on “ Global Career Opportunities for Chartered Accountants - How to prepare ourselves ” by CA.B.SaravanaPrasath, Chennai”

After that the second technical session was held onDirect Taxes, whose coordinator was CA. M.V. Pursuhottama Rao from Hyderabad. Ms. BoddapatiSireesha from Visakhapatnam presented a paper on“Concept of Deemed Valuation of Immovable Property”. Mr.S.Sagar from Hyderabad presented the paper on “TDS is not Tedious”. Mr. G. Rajeev Reddy from Karur, TN presented the paper on “NRI Taxation”.

The next session was another special session on “ Motivational Speech- Strategies for Success” took up by Mr. JVC Sreeram from Aura Leadership Foundation, Hyderabad.

At the end of first day a cultural evening was organized.

On the second day i.e., on 23rd of August, 2014, another Special Session entitled “ Believe Ourselves” was conducted by Dr.G.V.Rao of M-Power Me Consultants, Dubai.

The third technical session was held on ‘Fiscal Deficit – Impact on Indian Economy’, chaired by CA. M.R.Vikram, Hyderabad.Mr..V.S.Sandeep of Vijayawada presented a paper on the captioned topic. Mr. AkhandPratap Singh Chauhan from Bhopal presented the paper on “Derivatives in Capital Market”.

Later, a Special Session entitled “ Healthy Youth-Wealthy Nation ” was conducted by Mr.D.Srinivasa Raju of Art of Living Foundation, Vijayawada Branch.

After that fourth technical session was held on “Financial Reporting and Audit” whose coordinator was CA. ChinnasamiGanesan from Chennai. Mr. Avishek Ram form Kolkata presented the paper on “ Integrated Reporting towards Greater Accountability”.Ms. Neha Kale of Nagpur presented the paper on the topic“Working Capital Management –Lessons from Indian Corporates”.

The Fifth Technical session on Indirect Taxes was chaired by CA P.Rajendra Kumar of Chennai. Ms.P.Lakshmi Nehru of Hyderabad presented the paper on “ Reverse Charge Mechanism & Issues in Negative List in Service Tax”.Ms.Firdosh Sheikh from New Delhi presented the paper on “ Service Tax Implications- Real Estate and Construction Industry”.

The Convention ended with Valedictory session which was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Koneru Sridhar, Mayor, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation,CA S.Akkaiah Naidu, Chairman of Vijayawada Branch of SIRC of ICAI, CA A.Srinivas,, Vice-Chairman of Vijayawada Branch of SIRC of ICAI ,CA K.Siva Rama Kumar, Secretary, Vijayawada Branch of SIRC of ICAI , SICASA Chairman, CA V.Rammohan Reddyand MsA.Sahithi, Secretary SICASA, Vja Branch were also present in Valedictory session.

The Convention got huge media publicity at almost all the big players of the print as well as TV media had widely Covered the entire event. The whole event was managed and executed by volunteers ofVijayawada Branch of SICASAunder the tutelage of the Vijayawada branch of SIRC of ICAI. Over all the Convention was a historically grand success and was successful in achieving its desired objectives.
