The Trichur Branch of SIRC of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and the Trichur Branch of SICASA of the ICAI jointly hosted a Two Days National Conclave for CA Students, BODHI 2014 – Words of Wisdom with the theme Empowering the Masters of Tomorrow, organized by the Board of Studies of the ICAI on 20th & 21st December, 2014 at Hotel Merlin International, Thrissur. The Event was attended by 812 delegates.

The Conclave was inaugurated by CA K. Raghu, President, ICAI and the event graced with the presence of CA M. Devaraja Reddy, Chairman, BOS of ICAI, CA Babu Abraham Kallivayalil, Central Council Member, ICAI, CA Jomon K. George, Chairman, SICASA of SIRC of ICAI in the presence of CA Sijo P.L., Chairman, Trichur Branch of SIRC of ICAI, CA Sanjo N. G., Chairman, Trichur Branch of SICASA of ICAI and other Managing Committee members of Trichur Branch of SIRC of ICAI..

There were 6 technical Sessions and 2 special Sessions conducted during the two days Conclave, including a Special Interactive Session with the BOS Chairman. The interactive session was very useful and the student community really got the advantage. The other Special Session was handled by CA V. Pattabhi Ram on the topic ‘Succes – the PEPSI Way!’

The Conclave started with the First Technical Session – General Economics: Stock Market wherein student speakers from Hyderabad and Mumbai presented papers on ‘Recent Trends in Indian Stock Market’ and ‘Investment Avenues in Indian Stock Market’. The Session was chaired by CA T. S. Anantharaman.

The first technical Session was followed by the Inaugural Session and thereafter the Motivational Session by CA V. Pattabhi Ram. There were 2 Technical Sessions post lunch, on topics Direct Taxes (Tech Session 2) and Service Tax( Tech Session 3), chaired by CA V. Ramnath and CA. A. P. Lijil Lakshman respectively, wherein student speakers presented papers on topics like An overview on Chapter VI A Deductions, Taxability of Capital Receipts, Negative List in Service Tax and Reverse Charge & Partial Charge Mechanism.

The second day started with the 4th Technical Session which was on Information Technology which dealt with topics like Cloud Computing and Cyber Fraud Investigations and was chaired by CA Gopalkrishna Raju. Student speakers from Chennai and Hyderabad presented papers on the topics.

The next session was on Companies Act, 2013 which included topics on Applicability of Companies Act 2013 on Private Companies and Related Party Transactions, which were presented by student speakers from Palakkad and Coimbatore. Ashwin Narayanan, the student speaker who presented paper on Related Party Transactions & Meetings was selected the best paper presenter at the Conclave. The Session was chaired by CA. Chinnasamy Ganesan.

The last Technical Session of the Conclave was chaired by CA. Ritesh Mittal, which was on Advanced Accounting and dealt with Depreciation Accounting under New Companies Act and Path towards IFRS, both presented by student speakers.

Our each technical session was coordinated by senior members of the profession from Trichur.

The valedictory session was chaired by the SICASA Chairman, CA Sanjo N G and he recognized all the students who worked hard for the success of two day national Conclave. The valedictory function was followed by cultural events of students, with students from various branches in Kerala showcasing their talents through songs, dance, acts, etc., and which proved why Trichur is being known as the Cultural Capital of Kerala.

The Conclave received much media publicity and was widely appreciated by the mass, which reflected how the students and delegates took in the event. The inaugural and technical sessions were well covered in the leading newspapers with photographs. The Conclave was a successful event which provided the participants an excellent chance to get enlightened and empowered.
