Two Day National Convention for CA Students on 2nd & 3rd of December, 2014 was organized under the aegis of Board of Studies of ICAI, and hosted by Ernakulam Branch of SIRC of ICAI & Ernakulam Branch of SICASA. The theme of the convention was “ illuminaire 2014 – Pride in Excellence”. The Convention was conducted at Fine Arts Hall, Ernakulam.

Hon’ble President of ICAI, CA. K. Raghu was the Chief Guest. CA. M. Devaraja Reddy, Chairman Board of Studies was the Guest of honour. The other dignitaries who graced the inaugural session were Central Council Members CA. Sumantra Guha, CA. Babu Abraham Kallivayalil CA. G. Sekar, Chairman, SIRC of ICAI CA. P.V. Rajarajeswaran, , Chairman SICASA, SIRC of ICAI CA. Jomon K. George, Chairman Ernakulam Branch of SIRC of ICAI CA. M.O. Poulose, , Chairman SICASA of the Ernakulam Branch of SIRC of ICAI CA. Balagopal R.

Out of more than 40 papers received from CA Students, 10 best papers were selected to present their paper in the technical sessions on the topics ranging from Company Law, Service Tax, Strategic Financial Management, Auditing & Accounting Standards.

The First Technical Session was on topic “COMPANIES ACT, 2013 (i) Important Paradigm Shifts in Companies Act; (ii) Cross over between Companies Act 1956 and Companies Act 2013” which was chaired by CA. Sumantra Guha, FCA, Central Council Member, ICAI. Students speakers for the session were Mr. Rajeev Reddy, Bengaluru and Ms. Amrutha Gopinath, Palakkad.

A Special session “Interaction with Board of Studies” was conducted in which CA. M Devaraja Reddy Chairman, Board of Studies addressed the students. CA G Sekar, Central Council Member also addressed the students present.

The second technical session was on topic “SERVICE TAX - (i) Mega Exemption (ii) Negative List” which was chaired by CA. Rajesh Kumar T R, FCA, Bangalore. Students speakers for the session were Mr. Raj Mukesh Khona, Thane and Ms. Himanshi Khandelwal, Jaipur.

The third technical session was STRATEGIC FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT - (i) Options; (ii) Futures; (iii) Hedging which was chaired by CA. Saravana Prasath B, FCA, Chennai and students speakers were Ms. Priyadarsini K, Kochi and Ms. Ria Alapatt, Kochi

On the second day Fourth technical session was on topic– ADVANCED AUDITING - (i) Risk Assessment; (ii) Risk Management; (iii) Auditor’s Responsibility towards Fraud which was chaired by CA. S. Aparna, FCA, Hyderabad. Students Speakers : Mr. Nithin Chandwani, Jodhpur and Mr. Sujai Cherian Thomas, Kollam presented the papers.

A motivational session – Eternal Attributes of a True Professional was also conducted. The speaker was CA. C. Suresh, FCA, Secunderabad.

The fifth technical session was on topic ACCOUNTING STANDARDS - (i) A cross over between Standards as per Ind AS and IFRS; (ii) AS issued by ICAI in comparison with AS notified in Companies Act, 2013 which was chaired by CA. Jomon K. George, FCA, Kochi and students Mr. Abhishekanil Yelni, Amravati and Ms. Shruti Sreekumar, Kochi were presented the papers.

A special session Interaction with Shri. Vijay Kapur, Director Board of Studies was also conducted. The session was chaired by CA Babu Abraham Kallivayalil, Central Council Member and Member Board of Studies, ICAI

The Convention ended with Valedictory session which was Presided over by CA. Babu Abraham Kallivayalil, Member Board of Studies, ICAI . CA. R. Balagopal Chairman SICASA Ernakulam Branch , CA. John Lukose, Member SICASA Ernakulam, Mr Vijay Kapur, Director, Board of Studies, ICAI and Mr. Srikant K, Secretary SICASA Ernakulam Branch were present .

A Colorful entertainment program with participation of quite large number of student members of SICASA of the Branch was conducted in the evening.

The Convention got huge media publicity at almost all the big players of the print as well as TV media had widely covered the entire event. The whole event was managed and executed by Office bearers ,Committee members and members of Ernakulam Branch of SICASA and also with active support of the managing committee the Ernakulam branch of SIRC of ICAI. Over all the Convention was a grand success and was successful in achieving its desired objectives.
