Based on the frequently asked questions the following clarifications are issued:
Query 1.  Can a student of Professional Education (Course-II) appear in the examination after exhausting five attempts and additional attempts granted by the Council?
Answer: A student of Professional Education (Course-II) has to pass Professional Education (Examination-II) within five attempts vide Explanation to Regulation 28B(3) the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988. By virtue of Notification No. 1-CA(7) /83/2005 dated July 28,2005 such students are entitled to get additional attempts till December 2007. After expiry of these attempts, no further attempt is available for appearing in Professional Education (Examination-II).

However, if he/she was exempted from passing Professional Education (Course-I) under Regulation 25B(1), then restriction of five attempts is not applicable. He / she can appear Professional Education (Examination-II) till May 2008 vide second proviso of Regulation 28C. On discontinuation of the Professional Education (Examination-II) such students are eligible to appear Professional Competence Examination which will be treated as equivalent examination for such students.
Query 2.  Whether the eligibility for additional attempt is further extended up to the last attempt of Professional Education (Examination-II) to be held in May 2008 for all?
Answer: No. By virtue of Regulation 28C only such category of students who are not granted transition to Professional Competence Course are eligible to appear in Professional Education (Examination-II) till May 2008. This category of students consists of those who have not passed Professional Education (Examination-I) or Foundation Examination conducted by the Institute.
Query 3.  (i) Can a Professional Education (Course-II) student other than those who have passed Professional Education (Examination-I) or Foundation Examination appear in Professional Competence Examination to be held in May 2008 or Nov 2008?
(ii) What are the conditions to be fulfilled?
(iii) Whether ITT or CCT is compulsory?
Answer: (i) He / she can appear Professional Competence Examination having exhausted all attempts of Professional Education (Examination-II) only in November 2008.
(ii) He / she can apply to the Board of Studies for issuance of study materials. They have to pay cost of the study materials which has been fixed at Rs.400.
(iii) This category of students should complete 100 Hours Information Technology Training or should have completed 250 Hours Compulsory Computer Training before joining articleship. They are not required to complete ITT / CCT before appearing in Professional Competence Examination as this is an equivalent to Professional Education (Examination-II) offered to them as a special concession.
Query 4.  (i) How should the students of Intermediate course, who have completed articleship but could not pass any group of Intermediate or have passed one of the groups, and who have not attempted any Professional Education (Examination-II) proceed further?
(ii) Whether they will get the credit of 3 years of articleship already completed?
Answer: (i) This category of students is eligible to appear in Professional Education (Examination-II) to be held in November 2007 which will be their last attempt. Eligible attempts in which such students have not appeared will also be counted as exhausted attempts. Thereby they will not be entitled to appear in Professional Education (Examination-II) to be held in May 2008. Having exhausted this attempt, he / she has to apply for conversion to Professional Competence Course. If any of this category of students is not eligible to get transition to Professional Competence Course for the reason that he / she has not passed Foundation Examination, then he / she will be allowed to appear in Professional Education (Examination-II) to be held in May 2008. Refer to Answer to Query 1.
Alternatively, this category of students may join Professional Competence Course. They have to pay Rs.400 towards cost of new study materials of Professional Competence Course and collect the study materials from the respective Regional Office of the Institute making an application in the prescribed application form for conversion to Professional Competence Course. In addition, he / she has to pay registration fees of Rs.2000 with Board of Studies for 100 Hours Information Technology Training, if this has not been paid earlier. Transition to Professional Competence Course is available only if he / she has passed Foundation Examination conducted by the Institute.
(ii)Yes. This category of the students will get full credit of 3 years of articleship already completed.
