The World Forum of Accountants (WOFA) organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) culminates on third day with a grand finale addressed by Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon’ble Vice-President of India.
The Annual Function was graced by Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon’ble Vice-President of India as Chief Guest, CA. N D Gupta, Member of Parliament along with Pramod Chandra Mody, Secretary General, Rajya Sabha. Led by ICAI leadership CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, President, ICAI, CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, Vice President, ICAI and CA. (Dr.) Jai Kumar Batra, Secretary, ICAI.
Addressing the gathering Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon’ble Vice-President of India, said, “The theme of WOFA ‘Accountability meets Innovation: For a Sustainable Planet’ is of supreme relevance. India’s ancient wisdom, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam stands as a light house for the world for global challenges such as climate crisis and technological disruptions.”
He further added, “Chartered Accountant stands for Credibility Ambassadors, change accelerators, and I would urge you to be conscience arbiters, ethical guardians, and bold decision makers. It is heartening to note that 68% of the total Chartered Accountants in India, are under 40. This global powerhouse, situated in the largest democracy on the planet, can do wonders. I am optimistic you will do it.”
Stressing on how Chartered Accountants are pivotal to the overall success of the nation, he emphasized “The nation has had unparalleled economic growth in terms of infrastructure development, technology penetration and digitalization in the last few years. Chartered accountants are the most powerful and impactful force in this democracy, in shaping the future of this economy, contributing optimally to Viksit Bharat”.
Guest of Honour: CA. N D Gupta, Member of Parliament and Past President of ICAI. said, “The profession of Chartered Accountancy has not only upheld financial integrity but continually evolved with the times and served the nation with its exemplary performance. This profession has done so well internationally that today our CAs are globally respected. I am happy that ICAI has made significant contributions to nation’s growth and development.”
The third and the final day started with an address by Shri Ajay Bhushan Pandey, Chairman, NFRA on deliberating India@100: Value creations with Reforms. During the session he highlighted “When it comes to Corporate Governance, there are five lines of defence – the Management of the Company, the Board of Directors, Auditors, Shareholders, and Regulators. I am pleased to note that Chartered Accountants are integral to three of these five lines of defence.
In the afternoon, CA. Suresh Prabhu, Chancellor, Rishihood University & Former Union Minister addressed a special session on Rise of India as Global Accounting and Auditing Hub. During his address he said that “India’s future is inevitable. Our growth is not just about numbers; it is about the people who are the true drivers of our economy. India’s strength lies in its human capital, and CAs will drive this transformation. Sustainability demands a robust framework for natural resource accounting.”
The day concluded with annual function followed by awards distributed to Rank Holders of CA Examinations along with Awards for Regional Council, Branches & Overseas Chapters of ICAI under various categories.
On the culmination of WOFA, CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, President, ICAI said that “Conceived two years ago, WOFA marked a significant milestone for ICAI, which attracted over 8,000 delegates from 46 countries and 212 speakers participating in 46 technical sessions. The event brought together global experts and thought leaders, reflecting the power of collaboration and the growing influence of the accounting profession worldwide.”
President, ICAI sharing his diverse experience of over 15 Year serving the alma matter emphasized that "We must be accountable, not just in our professional lives, but in everything we do. Accountability and innovation must go hand in hand if we are to contribute to a sustainable future.”
CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, Vice-President, ICAI said, "The role of a CA is deeply woven in the fabric of India's economic & financial progress. Their multidimensional role remains the biggest contributor to the targets set by the Government to ensure that our nation becomes Viksit Bharat.”
The three-day event marked a significant milestone in the Institute's history, offering insightful discussions, engaging sessions and valuable learning experiences, sharing of ideas and rich networking.
